A house fire in Cork tragically resulted in the death of a man in his 60s on Friday evening. Gardai are currently investigating the cause of the fire and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatality.
The Gardai continue to investigate the cause of a fatal house fire in Cork that claimed the life of a man in his 60s on Friday evening. Emergency fire services and An Garda Siochana received reports of a fire at a property on Togher Road shortly before 7pm on Friday, January 31st. Fire services successfully brought the blaze under control, at which point the body of a man was discovered inside the building. He has been identified locally as Michael O'Sullivan, according to Cork Beo.
The State Pathologist has been notified, and the results of an upcoming post-mortem examination will be crucial in guiding the Garda investigation. A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana stated: 'Gardaí in Togher are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following a fatal house fire in Togher, Cork on Friday evening, 31st January 2025. 'At approximately 6.50pm Gardaí and Fire Services were alerted to a house fire on Togher Road. The fire was brought under control by Fire Services and the body of a man (aged in his 60s) was discovered deceased inside the property. 'Investigating Gardaí have preserved the scene as they work to determine the cause of the fire. 'The State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will take place on the body of the deceased in due course. 'The results of the post-mortem, along with a technical examination of the scene, will guide the ongoing Garda investigation. Investigations are ongoing.
