Jarlath Burns, president of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), has remained silent on an alleged sexual assault during an Armagh GAA trip to Miami, citing the right to anonymity for all parties involved. Burns, who is from Armagh, recused himself from the critical incident team investigating the incident due to his personal connection. He pledged to address the matter publicly when the time is right, emphasizing the need to respect the privacy of those involved.
Jarlath Burns says he has not spoken publicly on an alleged sexual assault on an Armagh GAA trip to Miami due to the "right of anonymity to all parties involved".
Speaking about the alleged incident on Friday's Late Late Show, Mr Burns said: "I haven't spoken publicly on it, just because I haven't spoken doesn't mean to say that I haven't been involved or that the Armagh county board haven't been involved or the GAA haven't been involved at every level in trying to address this issue.
When asked by host Patrick Kielty if he was confident that the procedures are robust enough, Burns responded by saying: "Very robust. At this point in time, the whole area of adult safeguarding is something that we are addressing. We have learnt lessons from another issue which has occured in Ulster and one of the recommendations of that would be that the GAA and other sporting organisations would have to address the whole area of adult safeguarding.
