DJ and former Big Brother contestant Ray Shah told the Irish Mirror of what he saw when he was among the first to see the damage on his way home from a gig

A man has been arrested in a garda probe after gates at Dublin landmarks were rammed - and Gardai are investigating if he is linked to social media accounts on which threats to kill were allegedly made.

A total of three sets of gates were damaged in and around Government Buildings. This included the Merrion Street entrance to Leinster House, which remained sealed early on Friday morning with crime scene tape around it. Other incidents saw the gates at the entrance to President Michael D Higgins’ residence at the Phoenix Park struck. Sources told the Irish Mirror that the gates were only “tipped” and there had been no security breach at Áras an Uachtaráin. There was no visible damage to the gates, but it is understood they were slightly ajar following damage to the opening mechanism.

"The scene remains preserved to facilitate a technical examination by the local Scenes of Crime Unit this morning. Investigations are ongoing." Gardaí also confirmed that they were investigating “incidents of criminal damage” at Phoenix Gate Lodge in the Phoenix Park and the Custom House.
