An 11-year-old girl, Halle Carney, sustained a fractured elbow after falling from monkey bars into a foam pit at Bounce N Beyond Limited in Dublin. A judge has approved a €56,000 Injuries Board assessment of damages, covering general damages and medical expenses.
An 11-year-old girl, Halle Carney, sustained a serious left elbow injury after falling from monkey bars into a foam pit at a Dublin fun park called Bounce N Beyond Limited. The incident occurred on July 4th, 2023, at what is claimed to be Ireland 's largest indoor trampoline and ninja park. During her visit, Ms. Carney was using overhead monkey bars when she fell, fracturing her left elbow in two places upon landing in the pit.
She was subsequently transported to Temple Street Children's Hospital where surgical tension band wires were inserted. These were later removed following intensive physiotherapy. Ms. Carney has fully recovered functionally and has resumed all her social activities, including dancing. A judge has ruled the €56,000 Injuries Board assessment of damages for Ms. Carney as appropriate. This sum comprises €55,000 in general damages, which will be paid into court for her benefit, and €1,333 for hospital and medical fees, which will be paid to her solicitor. The girl's legal representation, barrister David Richardson, stated that while legal proceedings against Bounce N Beyond Limited have not yet been initiated, the court was being sought to determine the adequacy of the board's assessment. Counsel explained that Ms. Carney's medical reports from consultant orthopaedic surgeons indicate that she faces a mild to moderate risk of osteoarthritis due to the injury. He further stated that under current personal injury guidelines, compelling arguments could be made on her behalf for compensation ranging from €40,000 to €72,500.
