A security guard employed by the Health Service Executive ( HSE ) at Letterkenny University Hospital in County Donegal is recovering after a violent assault in the early hours of yesterday morning. The incident occurred in the Accident and Emergency ( A&E ) treatment ward. According to reports, the security guard was confronted by an individual who was accompanying another person for medical treatment.
The alleged attacker was reportedly using his phone to video record within the hospital when security personnel approached him. Eyewitnesses claim that the situation escalated rapidly, culminating in the security guard being restrained by staff. It is alleged that the security guard sustained multiple injuries during the altercation, and his shirt was torn. Gardai (Irish police) were subsequently called to the scene, and the alleged attacker was removed from the hospital premises.A Garda spokesperson confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway. The spokesperson stated, 'Gardaí received a report of an assault at a premises at Kilmacrennan Road, Letterkenny, at around 2.30am on Thursday, 16th January 2025. Enquiries are ongoing.
