Storm Eowyn caused widespread destruction across Ireland with record-breaking winds, power outages, and dangerous travel conditions. While the storm is waning, heavy snowfall and persistent rain are expected to continue affecting parts of the country.

Ireland is enduring the aftermath of a historic storm, Storm Eowyn , which unleashed record-breaking gusts of up to 183km/h, causing widespread destruction across the country. Fallen trees and downed power lines have left a trail of damage in their wake, with nearly one million properties on the island currently without power. While Status Red weather warnings have been downgraded, the threat of severe weather persists.

The northwestern portion of the country remains under a Status Orange wind warning, while the southeast faces a less severe Status Yellow wind warning, both anticipated to last until 4pm. However, Donegal County will continue to bear the brunt of the storm, remaining under a Status Yellow wind warning until 7pm. Adding to the existing chaos, Met Eireann issued an urgent new warning for heavy snowfall in Donegal, expected from 9pm to 9am. This 12-hour alert warns of hazardous travel conditions due to icy stretches and snow showers. Despite the diminishing intensity of the storm, forecasters have cautioned that plummeting temperatures and challenging conditions could lead to further travel disruptions. These disruptions may manifest as dangerous roads, extended travel delays, and additional power outages. Met Eireann predicts temperatures today will range from 5C to 8C, but the windchill will make it feel significantly colder. Tonight, the forecast indicates light southerly or variable winds, with frost and icy patches developing. Scattered showers, including hail, sleet, and snow, primarily confined to northwest areas, are expected later, interspersed with long clear spells. Temperatures are expected to drop to -2C to 2C. This weather pattern is anticipated to continue into the weekend. Met Eireann forecasts a cold and crisp Saturday with frost and icy patches. Initially sunny skies will transition to cloudier conditions as showery rain moves in from the Atlantic during the afternoon and evening. The possibility of hail and isolated thunderstorms exists. Temperatures will remain relatively cold, ranging from 3C to 7C, with southerly winds freshening throughout the day. Saturday night will bring cold temperatures with clear spells and scattered showers, some wintry, mainly in the west and north early on. Temperatures are expected to dip to -2C to 2C generally, with some frost and ice. Southerly winds will be mostly light to moderate, shifting southeasterly later in the night and increasing fresh to strong in coastal areas of the south and southwest. Cloud cover will gradually increase overnight, with rain moving into southwestern coastal areas by morning. Sunday will usher in wet and windy conditions with a band of rain gradually spreading northeastwards throughout the day, some of it heavy and potentially thundery. The rain is expected to clear northeastwards later in the day, but scattered showers will follow. Persistent and heavy rain is likely to move into the south and southeast in the evening. Temperatures will reach 6C to 10C in strong and gusty southeasterly winds, reaching gale force at times in some coastal areas, decreasing to mostly moderate southerly winds away from the west coast later in the day. Sunday night will bring the chance of persistent rain for some parts of the south and east. Otherwise, a mix of clear spells and scattered showers, mainly in the west and south, some heavy and potentially thundery, is anticipated. Temperatures will range from 1C in the north to 6C in the south and southwest in mostly moderate southerly winds, although winds will be strong to near gale force in coastal areas of the south and west
