Severe weather warnings are imminent for Ireland as Storm Eowyn approaches, potentially becoming the most destructive storm to hit the country in recent history. Experts warn of damaging winds, heavy rain, snow, and sleet, urging the public to prepare for potential power outages and fallen trees.

Weather experts in Ireland are predicting Status Red alerts to be issued in the coming days ahead of Storm Eowyn , which is on course to be the most damaging storm to hit the country in a long time. Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather has described the findings of the most recent weather models on Wednesday morning as “concerning” and said Eowyn could be “the worst storm we have seen in years”.

The Weather Alerts Ireland channel on X, meanwhile, has forecast “worrying” wind speeds and said that red alerts are “very likely” in the coming days. As of 7am on Wednesday morning, Met Éireann had not issued any specific warnings related to the storm apart from an advisory for Thursday night and Friday, which has flagged “very strong to gale force winds”, “damaging gusts” and “disruption in places”. A meteorological commentary published after Storm Eowyn was named on Tuesday, meanwhile, stated that weather warnings will be issued in the coming days, with “orange warnings as a minimum”. Fallen trees and power outages are likely as a result of the inclement conditions, which will include snow, sleet, heavy rain and damaging wind gusts, with the west and northwest of the country likely to be worst affected. A Storm Orange storm marine warning has been issued for all coasts in Ireland and the Irish sea, which will come into effect at 2am on Friday and remain in place until 5pm on the same day. Ahead of Storm Eowyn, Met Éireann has issued the following advice to the public to stay safe in extreme weather.
