Parents of children killed on roads hit out at plan which would allow convicted Irish drink-drivers drive to work
Parents of children killed on the roads voiced outrage over proposals that convicted drink drivers could be allowed behind the wheel to travel to work. The exemption is being examined by Junior Transport Minister Brendan Griffin, who has requested officials look at a similar scheme in New Zealand.
“These people that want to drink and drive, obviously they have not lost a child. And if they do think so much of their family, don’t drink and drive. Leo Lieghio, whose 16-year-old daughter Marsia was killed in Dublin in 2005 by a thug serving a drink-driving ban, said those who choose to behave dangerously should face the consequences.
“It’s a simple fact. If you don’t want to be disqualified from driving, just do not drink and drive. Then your family is safe, your family income is safe, your job is safe, everything is safe.
