The driver of Kilkenny's team bus was issued a parking ticket despite a peculiar situation that prevented him from parking properly before a hurling match against Wexford.
The driver of Kilkenny 's team bus was left stunned after receiving a parking ticket during a peculiar incident before the Cats' Allianz Hurling League match against Wexford . While Derek Lyng's team ultimately triumphed with a score of 2-17 to 0-15, the unusual situation unfolded as the players disembarked for a pre-match meal at a hotel in town.
The Wexford People detailed the incident, explaining that the bus driver was unable to maneuver the vehicle fully into the designated drop-off area in front of Whites Hotel due to bollards obstructing the doorway. As a result, the rear of the bus extended onto the street as players exited. Jimmy Tone, the Wexford team bus driver, shared his astonishment with the local newspaper. 'I’ve never encountered anything like this before,' Tone stated. 'Basically, there were bollards at the doorway, and I couldn’t get right in by the door, so the tail of the bus was hanging out a bit onto the street. A member of the management team got off the bus to see about getting the bollards moved, and as soon as he did, a few of the players got off and opened up the compartments at the back. 'The traffic warden told me to move, and I just said ‘give me two or three minutes until we get everything closed up’. A few of the lads on board couldn’t believe it. He said: ‘You bus drivers think you can park where you like. I’ll make you move.’ 'With that, he started taking down the details on the machine. When we got the bollards moved and pulled up outside the door, he said ‘why couldn't you have done that in the first place?’ But obviously, I couldn’t do it.”
