Mamadi Sialou, 21, was found with cocaine concealed in his car and clothes during the Kinsale 7s rugby tournament. He admitted to intending to sell the drugs and avoid imprisonment through community service.

A 21-year-old man, Mamadi Sialou, was sentenced to 120 hours of community service in lieu of four months in prison for possession of drugs with intent to sell. Sialou was stopped at a garda checkpoint in Belgooly, County Cork, on May 5th, during the busy weekend of the Kinsale 7s rugby tournament. Gardaí discovered 49 bags of suspected cocaine concealed in his trousers and two more bags behind a sun visor.

Sialou admitted to intending to sell the drugs for €70 per gramme at the event, stating he was doing so to pay off a drug debt. Defense solicitor Myra Dineen highlighted Sialou's lack of prior convictions, his enrollment as a second-year automotive technology and management student at Munster Technological University, and his strong family support system. Judge McNulty acknowledged Sialou's remorse and his lack of criminal history, ultimately opting for community service instead of imprisonment. This case follows a 2023 order by a judge to erect signage in Kinsale before the rugby tournament, warning attendees against antisocial behavior, particularly drug-taking, due to the event's history of being labeled a 'snowfest'
