After spending 25 years in various roles, including the transport industry and as a taxi driver, Burke is eager to bring his life experiences and understanding of the public sphere to his new role. He acknowledges the adjustments that come with entering a new career path, particularly the stricter dress code, but emphasizes the adaptability and quick learning curve within the Garda College.Another recruit, Eunice Moran from Mayo, brings her own unique background to the force. Having worked as a broadcaster for 15 years on Midwest radio, Moran believes her communication skills will be invaluable in her interactions with the public. She is enthusiastic about applying her experience in building rapport and understanding people's perspectives to her work as a garda. This shift towards embracing older applicants aligns with international standards seen in police forces like the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the Met Police, who accept candidates up to the age of 57.
