It’s Our Pleasure: Sex educator Olivia Teahan on why society needs to remove the stigma around middle-aged women’s desires and how we can embrace sex at any age

Olivia Teahan is a sex educator based in Cork with a Bachelors in Law, a Masters in Public Health and she is currently training to be a Psychosexual Therapist. In 2023, Olivia founded the Sx Sláinte project, which provides shame-free perspectives on sex for adults of all demographics in Ireland.The myth that has been ingrained into many of us is that wanting sexual pleasure and intimacy is only acceptable if you’re young, or thin, or male, or able-bodied.

Being able to share with a sexual partner what suits us and what feels good is the next thing — if we’re not confident with putting it into words, we can physically show them. If you are re-discovering yourself sexually, it’s usually best to mention that in a neutral, unsexualised setting with a partner.
