Met Eireann has issued two significant weather warnings ahead of what is expected to be a stormy Sunday across much of Ireland. A Status Orange alert for rain is in place for Cork and Waterford, warning of heavy rainfall leading to flooding and dangerous driving conditions.

The threat doesn't end there as in addition, a separate Status Yellow weather warning is in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry and Waterford. This alert is set to last a full 24-hours from midnight Sunday through to midnight Monday. It states: "Persistent rain, heavy at times. Potential impacts include localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
"Rain will gradually clear from the southeast on Sunday night, with dry conditions developing across most of the country. However, further outbreaks of rain will move into the northwest later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 11C with moderate to fresh and gusty east to northeast winds easing and becoming northerly overnight."
"Cork County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team convened on Friday evening. Crews were deployed on Friday afternoon inspecting known risk locations across the county. Crews will continue to monitor the situation throughout the weekend. Pumping arrangements will be in place in known problem locations.
