Department confirms offer was made for accommodation centre at Dublin property but says no decision made
In an email sent to local TDs and councillors on Sunday, members of the Mount Street community network, which was established in March 2024, said they would “resist” the application to turn the former headquarters of the Irish League of Credit Unions into housing for“We have been living with tents and metal barriers in our neighbourhood for over 18 months,” said the email, seen by The Irish Times.
The Lower Mount Street Accommodation Services limited company was established in August 2024, according to company filings. In May 2024, the tents of more than 200 asylum seekers were dismantled and removed from Mount Street as part of a multi-agency operation to clear the area of IPAs who had set up camp while awaiting a decision on their asylum claim.
Residents and business owners learned of the proposal to redevelop the ILCU site “like everyone else, through reading the paper”, said Ms Hamilton.
