Concerns have resurfaced regarding the potential cost overrun of the National Children's Hospital in Ireland. BAM, the main contractor, has submitted additional claims that could add €850 million to the budget. While Tánaiste Simon Harris insists the State will continue to contest these claims, Labour's Alan Kelly and Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín express doubts about the hospital's 2025 completion date.

Tánaiste Simon Harris has urged caution about reports that National Children’s Hospital could cost an additional €850m and insists the State will continue to “robustly push back” on claims made by the contractor. Labour’s Alan Kelly stated he does not believe the hospital will open until 2027.

On his way into Cabinet, Mr Harris, a former Health Minister, attempted to dismiss concerns about the story and vowed that the State would continue to contest claims. Taoiseach Micheál Martin, meanwhile, said there has been “engagement” between the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board and BAM for “quite some time” and “that needs to continue and the State needs to ensure it gets value for money”.
