More than 10,300 people have signed an online petition calling for Attendance Allowance to change.
More than 10,300 people have signed an online petition calling for a mobility element to be added to Attendance Allowance alongside the daily living component to enable people over State Pension age with a disability or health condition to access the Motability Scheme. As it has now passed the 10,000 signature threshold, It is entitled to a written response from the UK Government, however, due to Easter recess, it is unlikely this will be made before April 15.
The petition continues: “If a person receives DLA or PIP they can receive a mobility element for their benefit, and this continues once they reach State Pension age, allowing them to get a Motability Vehicle. Top Money Stories Today Last month, SNP MP Drew Hendry echoed the sentiments of the petition by asking the Department for Work and Pensions if it has made any assessment of the “potential merits of including a mobility element in Attendance Allowance that enables access to the Motability scheme”.
Latest Disability Benefits News The DWP Minister went on to explain how Attendance Allowance has “never included a mobility component, and so cannot be used in payment for a leased Motability scheme vehicle”.
