Taoiseach Micheal Martin has announced that there will be no cost-of-living package included in the next Irish budget. This means that energy credits, which were introduced last year to help with rising living costs, will not be continued. The government will instead focus on supporting people through the budget by utilizing social protection and tax mechanisms.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin has indicated that there are no plans to extend energy credits or introduce a new cost-of-living package in the upcoming budget. Last year's budget in October included energy credits as part of the government's response to inflation and rising living costs. The plan was to provide all domestic electricity customers with €250 off their bills through two installments. Similar measures had been implemented in previous budgets.
However, Taoiseach Martin ruled out continuing this measure, stating that another cost-of-living package will not be included in the next budget. Previous budgets have featured one-off additional payments for recipients of various allowances, such as child benefit, disability allowance, and fuel allowance. Tax measures, including the renters' tax credit, were also implemented. Mr. Martin did not specify whether these measures would be affected. Speaking on RTE radio on Sunday, he said, 'We’re not going to have a cost-of-living package this year, that’s the Government view. 'We will endeavour through the budget, through the various mechanisms we have from social protection to tax – to help people. 'But inflation has come a way down.
