Thousands of baby soothers sold in Ireland have been recalled due to a potential choking hazard. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued a warning to parents to stop using the affected product immediately.
Over 10,000 baby soothers sold in Ireland have been recalled due to a potential choking hazard for babies and young children. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) issued the recall on Thursday following a coordinated EU-wide product safety check of baby soothers . The CCPC stated that the affected product, the 123 Baby Essentials Orthodontic Style Soothers 2pk, can break into small parts that a child could put in their mouth, posing a choking risk.
\Product safety experts at the CCPC found that the soothers failed several safety tests, most notably when the shield of the soother broke during impact resistance testing, creating a small, detachable part. The soothers come in blue, pink, and white and were sold at various retailers across Ireland. \Parents who have the affected soothers are urged to stop using them immediately and keep them out of reach of children and babies. Grainne Griffin, CCPC Director of Communications, warned that approximately 10,200 affected soothers are in Ireland. She stressed the potential for these soothers to break into small pieces, become lodged in a child's throat, and cause serious harm or even death. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and to keep it out of reach of children. If in doubt about a soother, parents should remove it from their child and compare it to images available on the CCPC website or social media channels. Consumers can also check the packaging for the trade name, product code, and batch number. If the soother is identified as one of the recalled products, it should be stopped using immediately. Consumers can dispose of the product or return it to the store where it was purchased
