Patrick Kielty is mourning the loss of his mother, Mary Kielty, who passed away peacefully at home in Dundrum, Co Down, shortly after he hosted the Late Late Show on RTE One.

Patrick, who took over as host of the Late Late Show last year, often spoke fondly of his mother's no-nonsense approach to his fame. He revealed that when people praised her for raising a successful son, she would simply respond, "Which son? I've got three of them and I'm proud of them all." Patrick's family life has been marked by tragedy as well, with the death of his father and Mary's husband Jack, who was killed by loyalist paramilitaries when Patrick was just 16 years old.
