A mysterious man dressed in all yellow has sparked widespread fear and concern in rural communities in Northern Ireland. Police are urging people to avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
Police in Northern Ireland have issued an update on the investigation into a mysterious individual dubbed the ' yellow man ,' who has sparked widespread concern and panic in rural communities. The man, first sighted on the Vow Road in Kilrea, County Derry, around 12:30 am on December 27, was wearing a full yellow outfit, including a long coat, trousers, and boots, along with a white mask and a black wig.
His unsettling appearance was captured in a video posted online by Gerard McFerran, who confronted him about his peculiar attire. While online speculation suggested the man might be armed, McFerran clarified that he did not believe the individual was carrying a weapon. Despite this, the bizarre sighting has prompted an increase in police patrols in Kilrea, as well as in the nearby towns of Rasharkin and Dunloy in County Antrim. There have also been reports of the 'yellow man' being seen in Portglenone, County Antrim. Local authorities have spoken with several witnesses but have yet to locate the individual, leading to growing anxiety within the community. Belfast Live reports that the situation has become a source of concern for residents. The police have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information on social media, warning that it could exacerbate fear, particularly among younger children. A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) stated, 'Following reports of the so-called ‘yellow man’ in areas across Causeway Coast and Glens, local police have carried out many proactive patrols and have spoken to a number of witnesses however to date, the individual described has not been located. We are aware that the ‘yellow man’ has gained much traction on social media, giving rise to further claimed sightings online - which have not been reported to police. Whilst we understand that there is concern in the community, ongoing social media speculation and commentary, and the re-sharing of unsubstantiated information, is not helpful and indeed can cause increased fear, particularly amongst our younger school-aged populations. Before you post online, please consider the consequences your actions may have - no one wants to inadvertently generate unnecessary fear in our community. You will continue to see our officers on patrol to provide reassurance that we are committed to doing everything we can to make our community feel safe and be safe. If you have any concerns around behaviour that you consider suspicious, please report to local officers on 101, or online at.'
