Murray rejected the jury's verdict but thanked the judge saying it was “one of the fairest trials I ever got'

Rapist Michael Murray faces a maximum of five more years in prison for phoning in a false bomb threat against Minister for Justice Helen McEntee, a court has heard.

Murray himself then gave evidence - taking to the witness box to tell the judge that he rejected the verdict - but felt this was the “fairest trial” he had ever had. He told the court that he’s doing “35 years in prison over this” and knows he will probably have to do more. The judge said she wanted clarity on the issue in order to determine whether the sentence for this crime ought to be served consecutively or concurrently.

“Some people may not like Michael Murray, this is not what this is about. It’s not a talent contest. This is about a threat to the security of the State. This is not a personality contest,” Murray said.
