The riots on November 23 2023 took place around the O’Connell Street area and saw shops looted, windows broken and buses, trams and Garda cars set on fire.
The long-awaited review of the policing of the Dublin Riots will be brought to Cabinet on Wednesday morning by Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan.
At Wednesday morning's Cabinet meeting, Minister Jim O’Callaghan will update ministers on the Policing Authority’s Review of Public Order Policing, which was carried out following the Dublin Riots. It provided its report to the Minister in August 2024 and highlighted several issues that needed attention, including central coordination, management and governance, resourcing, use of force, equipment and training, and staff welfare.Sources on Tuesday evening stated that several steps had been taken since the riots, including additional equipment being provided to public order units.
On the same day, the EU announced its proposed countermeasures, which will come into effect in mid-April. The US is expected to announce a further round of measures on 2 April.
