Terrified staff had to retreat to the toilets for their own safety at the Guud Day cafe, where Corey Gaynor was charged with possession of a stolen fire extinguisher

We have learned that Corey Gaynor, 23, has been handed a five-year jail sentence at the Dublin Circuit Court after he pleaded guilty to a litany of charges connected to the disturbances that paralysed the city in November 2023.

He has been in custody since he was charged with the offences in July last year – as part of a massive Garda investigation into the riot. His sentence will now be backdated to when he went into custody. Sources say when he targeted the Guud Day coffee shop, terrified staff had to retreat to the toilets for their own safety. The five-year jail term is one of the stiffest handed down to criminals who rioted in Dublin on that day.

And in February of this year, a teen who targeted a bus and a Garda car and looted several shops was also jailed. Kyle Lawrence, 19 from Lurgan Street in Dublin 7, pleaded guilty to charges of violet disorder, theft and criminal damage. He was jailed for three and a half years.
