Over a thousand gardai will be deployed throughout Dublin city centre for St. Patrick’s Day, ensuring public safety during the festivities. While no specific threat has been identified, the increased security presence aims to reassure the public and provide a safe environment for attendees.

Over a thousand gardai will deploy a heavy security presence throughout Dublin city centre as the St. Patrick's Day festivities commence. This heightened security measure aims to reassure the public that the capital is safe during the parade on Monday. While officers are not currently concerned about any specific threats, they are actively monitoring the situation across social media and potential areas of public disorder.

The increased security follows claims that the festival was the target of an alleged online threat from ISIS. However, despite monitoring the situation, no credible or immediate threat has been identified. Chief Superintendent Patrick McMenamin of Store Street Garda station, in comments to the Sunday Times, stated that the online threat has been assessed and deemed not to be a cause for concern. He explained that gardai investigate all online threats, regardless of their perceived level of seriousness, to ensure the safety of the parade and its attendees. The St. Patrick's Day Parade is scheduled to begin at midday at Parnell Square North and conclude at Kevin Street Lower. In addition to the visible security presence, gardai will also be distributing 'public safety' wristbands to parents for their children and vulnerable individuals in case of separation. Gardai have released a comprehensive pre-parade statement advising the public to choose a viewing area along the route in advance, arrive early, and plan their journey into the city beforehand. They also recommend utilizing public transportation or 'Park and Ride' facilities, keeping children under close supervision, packing sensibly, and minding personal belongings. Attendees are urged to follow the instructions of gardai and stewards. To accommodate the parade, gardai have implemented rolling road closures and traffic restrictions across the city centre from early Monday morning. Motorists are advised that parking along the parade route will not be permitted, and any vehicles will be towed. All traffic will be diverted through the North and South Circular Roads during the duration of the parade. Local access and egress to affected streets will be facilitated.Gardai are advising motorists and those who must commute by car into or through the city, particularly over the weekend and on Monday, to plan their journeys in advance, adhere to road signage, follow the instructions of gardai and/or parade stewards. They also recommend parking in secure locations and avoiding blocking access that might hinder emergency services or residents. Gardai have also released safety advice for those socializing in the city centre, recommending that individuals inform someone about their whereabouts and anticipated return time. They advise exercising caution with personal belongings, especially in crowded areas, and strongly discourage driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Speaking ahead of the St. Patrick’s Bank Holiday Weekend in Dublin, Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary stated, 'Dublin is a vibrant city, and we’re looking forward to helping to welcome thousands of visitors to our capital over the next three days to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. With dozens of exciting family-friendly events due to be held, we have a carefully planned and fully co-ordinated plan in place to ensure that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable time. An Garda Síochána has worked very closely with the St. Patrick’s Festival organisers in the lead up to this year’s schedule. We are on-hand 24-7 so please contact us or stop us on the street if there is anything that we can do. Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona daoibh.
