Former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland star Roy Keane admitted to crying when he left Old Trafford in 2005, marking the end of a 12-year tenure. Despite winning numerous trophies with the club, his relationship with manager Alex Ferguson soured, leading to a contract termination. Keane, who also played for Celtic, expressed he lacks the typical fan affinity for the clubs he represented, viewing them professionally rather than emotionally.

Keane had spent 12 years at the Old Trafford club, where he won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League.

Keane was speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, when he said: “When I left United, I did cry that morning. Cried in my car.” More recently, he has worked as assistant manager to Martin O’Neill in the senior Ireland set-up and again at Nottingham Forest. “I don’t have that affinity with the clubs I’ve played for. I don’t support Manchester United. I don’t support Nottingham Forest,” he said.
