This article explains a TikTok travel expert's trick for getting the best seat on a Ryanair flight without paying extra. The hack involves being the last person to board and choosing any available free seat.

A travel expert has shared their golden rule for always getting the best seat on a Ryanair flight, and it involves one specific trick when you're checking in. The TikTok creator, Live_TheDash, says this hack allows you to 'not pay extra for your seat on the plane', by simply taking a gamble and picking the best of the free seats that are left. He tells followers, 'If you really don't want to pay, there is another option.

Hang around the check-in desk like a bad smell, enter using the back door and make sure you're the very last person on the plane. As you walk down the cabin, choose any free chair you like.' Sharing his theory, he revealed he believes you end up with worse seats even when you've paid more, but that you can beat the seat allocation and still get great free seats by trying the trick above. Of course, if the flight is full you will still end up in your randomly allocated seat, but travellers who have tried it insist it is often well worth the gamble. He also shared his top tips for paying to choose a seat, adding: 'If you do decide to cave in, and buy a seat on the plane, please remember these golden rules. Choose a seat in front of an extra legroom chair to guarantee no one kicks you in the back. The right hand side of the plane actually has one less row, so you get an extra inch of leg room in D, E and F. Remember, row one is just a permanent ticket to a never-ending toilet queue. Since the video was shared, many have shared their opinions revealing that they also do this when flying with great results. One viewer advised: 'Never pay the extra and always have good places.' Someone else added: 'I just wait until the last minute to check in, and always end up with the best seat.' When you’re flying with Ryanair, you can either purchase reserved seats or free seats, which are assigned randomly during check-in. If you choose the latter, you will be able to check-in between 24 hours and two hours before the flight departure time. Ryanair recommends that if you want to be seated beside your travel companion, then you should pay and reserve seats. On their website, they say: “We recommend that you reserve your seat when booking or when checking in to guarantee a seat beside your travel companions. If you choose not to reserve a seat, then a seat will be randomly allocated to you free of charge when checking in, but it is unlikely it will be beside your travel companions.” If you decide to pay for a specific seat, during check-in, or at any point leading-up to your flight, you can choose where to sit and that seat will be reserved for you. Your online check-in opens 60 days before the scheduled departure time. There isn’t just one price when buying a seat, as it depends on where you choose to sit on the aircraft. Ryanair also have a Family Seat Policy, which states that children under the age of 12 must sit beside an accompanying adult, and infants must sit on an accompanying adult’s lap. It says: “For safety reasons, children under the age of 12 must sit beside an accompanying adult, and infants (aged 8 days to 23 months inclusive) must sit on an accompanying adult’s lap. It is mandatory for an adult travelling with children under 12 (excl. infants) to reserve a seat. A maximum of four children for every one adult on the same booking will receive a reserved seat free of charge. This ensures parents of young children sit together during the flight. It will also allow you to check-in for your flight 60 days before departure. It is not mandatory for any other adults or teenagers in the booking to reserve a seat, however they may choose to do so if they wish to seat with the rest of the family.” There are also separate rules for people who want to sit in the emergency row on the plane. On the Ryanair website, it says: “For safety reasons, you can only sit in an emergency exit seat if you are:
