DCU were the better team for three quarters of the game in their Sigerson Cup Final encounter with Dublin rivals UCD at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence this evening and walked off with a sixth title.
Ciaran Caulfield lifted DCU’s sixth Sigerson Cup at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence at Bekan this evening, after a convincing win in their big Dublin derby decider with UCD.
Dublin panellist Dunne finished with 1-2 from play while his Skerries club mates McEneaney and corner back Eoghan O’Connor Flanagan both scored and had big games. But overall they had no answer to DCU’s intense tackling and ability to break fast with Meath vice captain Caulfield at wing back and Leitrim inside forward Thomas Prior others to shine.
UCD will rue the scores they left behind them in the first half with four shots dropped short and seven misses, which became 11 by the final whistle. Skipper Daire Cregg missed a couple of frees too. From there DCU took over and were deserving winners having 10 different scores to UCD’s five, and accumulating 1-13 of their 1-16 from play.
