South Belfast stabbing incident may have been Islamist terror attack

Police in Northern Ireland are following three lines of enquiry behind the March 1st incident

PSNI detectives investigating a stabbing incident believe the attack may have been an Islamist terror attack.

Local officers responded to the attack as well as the Armed Response Unit and the suspect, an 18-year-old, was arrested shortly after the attack. A knife, believed to be a kitchen knife, was also recovered. In a statement issued on Friday, the PSNI said that detectives from the Serious Crime Branch “continue to investigate the circumstances of a stabbing which took place close to the Ormeau Road area of Belfast around 7.35pm on Saturday, 1 March”.
