A Spanish woman living in Ireland has taken to TikTok to dispel a common myth about the cost of living in the Emerald Isle. Leire highlights the discrepancies between average wages in Spain and Ireland, arguing that while housing costs may be higher, they are manageable with careful planning and considering locations outside of major cities. She shares her own experiences finding affordable accommodation and emphasizes the abundance of opportunities and amenities beyond Dublin.

A Spanish woman residing in Ireland has openly discussed her experiences of living abroad. Leire took to TikTok to share her insights on her @leirelei page, addressing a common misconception about moving to Ireland . In her viral video, which has garnered nearly 23,000 views, she stated: 'More and more Spaniards are relocating to Ireland in pursuit of a brighter future, seeking better job opportunities that are unavailable in Spain .

' While some claim that Ireland is exorbitantly expensive, Leire refutes this notion. She points out that the average annual wage in Spain is a modest €15,876, or €1,323 per month, whereas the average monthly income in Ireland is €2,146. Even though many argue that the cost of living is higher, Leire contends that affordable accommodation can be found if one avoids Dublin and major city centers. Addressing those who lament about the cost of living in Ireland, Leire expresses her disapproval. She asserts: 'Sorry, but that is not true. Where do you want to live? In the heart of Dublin? What are the rental and purchase prices in the center of Barcelona and Madrid? Young people there cannot afford to rent or buy a house.'Leire emphasizes that 'Ireland is not solely Dublin,' highlighting the existence of numerous other well-connected locations boasting vibrant social scenes and amenities. The TikToker, who has lived in two distinct Irish regions, including a small town near Galway, reveals that she once secured a room with a shared bathroom for under €350 per month. The entire property, capable of comfortably accommodating four individuals, cost approximately €1,350 each month. Her current residence is in Leitrim, where she rents a two-bedroom apartment with her partner. She adds: 'This town has everything: supermarkets, pubs, movie theaters, restaurants, gyms, and a bus to the airport. We pay less than €2,000. With two minimum wages, around €4,000, and paying €1,200 for accommodation is not bad.' The couple spends roughly €25 weekly on groceries, comfortably living without compromising. However, she acknowledges that finding accommodation has been 'significantly harder' compared to her experience in Spain. This, however, does not deter her from appreciating Ireland. She concludes: 'We live quite well. If you're contemplating relocating, seeking a new life and job opportunities, I consider Ireland to be a very favorable country.'
