Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for Cork and Kerry ahead of 'persistent rain' and 'expected' flooding.

The rain alert is scheduled to take effect from midday on Wednesday until the same time on Thursday.

It reads: “Persistent rain, heavy at times, accompanied by strong onshore winds, high tides, and elevated river levels.⚠️Orange Rain Warning⚠️ Cork & Kerry currently on yellow rain warning until 12:00 Wed 13/03/24 when will upgrade to an orange level until Thu 14/03/24 at 12:00This is set to be valid until midday on Wednesday, when the Status Orange warning will take over.

As for the rest of the country on Wednesday, Met Éireann’s national forecast reads: “Most areas will become dry for a time in the afternoon. “It will be more of a dull and damp day further south where rain and drizzle will continue… Coastal flooding is possible due to unusually high tides.”The forecast for Thursday also reads: “Mostly cloudy and unsettled with rain or showers continuing to feed in from the southwest.
