Breaking: Supreme Court finds the PAC acted unlawfully in its questioning of former Rehab CEO Angela Kerins

Former CEO of the Rehab group, Angela Kerins Image: Rollingnews.ie Former CEO of the Rehab group, Angela Kerins Image: Rollingnews.ie THE SUPREME COURT has found that the Public Accounts Committee acted unlawfully in relation to its questioning of former Rehab CEO Angela Kerins. The court found today that the PAC acted outside its remit in how it questioned Kerins. The case has been adjourned until April for a decision regarding the defendants and whether Kerins is owed damages.

Angela Kerins had sought damages from the PAC for distress, public humiliation, and the loss of her career following her appearance before the committee in February 2014. However, a High Court ruling in 2017 found that the courts had no jurisdiction to intervene or award damages over Dáil hearings. The court previously heard that Kerins had made an attempt on her own life following the PAC hearing, and that she subsequently resigned as CEO of Rehab on 2 April 2014.
