It's looking like summer is definitely over with no sunshine or extended dry spells on the horizon right now, just unsettled conditions and cooler temperatures says Met Eireann

After days of gusty winds thanks to the end of Hurricane Ernesto, many of us were hoping for some sunny spells to wrap up the summer holidays.

The national forecaster has predicted lows of eight degrees this week as well as isolated thunderstorms and possibly hail.Read more:Social welfare Ireland: Parents are eligible for over €700 in payments for children this September It looks like there may be some improvement heading into next week, as they continued: "Changeable and unsettled conditions look likely to persist through midweek but on the plus side, temperatures look set to recover closer to normal."Thursday 22nd August Lingering overnight rain and drizzle will soon clear eastwards this morning and sunny spells and scattered showers will follow from the west for a time.

Friday 23rd August Tomorrow Friday will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers. The showers will be mainly in the west at first, but they'll spread elsewhere in the afternoon, and some of them will be heavy with isolated thunderstorms and the chance of hail, especially in the west and north. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees.
