A third man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man who was killed following a fight in a Dublin nightclub. Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning on South Anne Street.

A third man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man after a fight erupted in a Dublin nightclub over the weekend. One suspect, apprehended in Belfast by the PSNI following a request from the Garda, was out on bail for possession of an offensive weapon. He was detained as he was about to board a ferry to Britain and is currently held at a police station in Northern Ireland. Gardaí believe he was attempting to flee Ireland for Liverpool.

A second man, in his 20s, was arrested by gardaí following searches in County Dublin and is being held at Pearse Street Garda station. The victim, identified as (34)-year-old Nigerian asylum seeker, resided at the Ballyogan international protection accommodation center in South Dublin, having moved there from the Citywest accommodation center last year. He sustained fatal injuries after an altercation in the early hours of Saturday on South Anne Street, off Grafton Street, after going to the club in Dublin city on Friday night. A postmortem examination has been conducted, but the results are not being released for operational reasons. The victim had attended an African music night at the Twenty Two club on South Anne Street. A fight involving two groups of people broke out on the premises and continued on the street.Footage from the scene, widely shared on social media, shows the victim being attacked by a man wielding a large blade. The assault on Mr. Babatunde continued even after he fell to the ground. A second man, also in his 30s, suffered less severe stab wounds. Gardaí have gathered extensive CCTV footage from the scene and are confident they have identified those involved in the violence. Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan stated on Sunday that gardaí have launched a murder investigation and are making “very good progress” in identifying those involved. Gardaí were called to the South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper area shortly after 3 am on Saturday and discovered a man in his 30s who was seriously injured and unresponsive. “He was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and transferred to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later,” a Garda statement said. The PSNI confirmed that a 23-year-old man was arrested in Belfast and detained under the Criminal Jurisdiction Act 1975 and remains in police custody. “Officers will continue to work closely with An Garda Síochána and a further update will be provided in due course,” a PSNI statement read. Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who may have been present in the vicinity of South Anne Street/Duke Lane Upper between 2.45 am and 3.30 am on Saturday, or anyone with footage from the general area at that time.
