Tributes have been paid to a mother-of-three from Co Wexford who tragically passed away on Christmas Day. Olive Hickey (née O'Connor), from New Ross, died peacefully in The Oak Ward of Waterford Regional Hospital while surrounded by her loving family on December 25, 2024. Olive was a beloved member of the local community and tributes have flooded in for the popular mother-of three.

New Ross rugby club postponed their St Stephen’s Day activities following the news of Olive's passing, with the club offering their condolences to the Hickey family. 'It is with great sadness that we are postponing all St Stephen’s Day activities at the club due to the devastating passing of Olive Hickey,' the club announced in a social media post. 'Our heartbroken sympathies and condolences go to John on the loss of his beloved wife, and Emma, Tom and Conor on the loss of their dear mother. 'We cannot express the sorrow in our hearts that we feel for all of Olive’s family and friends. May she rest in peace.' Olive was a keen horse rider and animal lover who was involved with a number of organisations in the local community. The UCD graduate was a frequent visitor to Ballyrue Equestrian Centre, with workers at the facility paying tribute to the talented horse rider. 'It's with a heavy heart that we share the devastating loss of our dearest friend Olive,' they wrote in a post shared on their Facebook page. 'Olive has been a massive part of our yard for the last number of years. Her drive, enthusiasm, passion and genuine strive to live every day to the absolute fullest was inspiring. She didn't waste a second! But most importantly, her kindness and willingness to help all others at the drop of a hat. Nothing was ever too much. 'Her genuine love for horses was beautiful'
