Michael O'Sullivan, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene of a fire in his Cork flat last Friday. Tributes poured in for the well-known local figure remembered as a kind and friendly man.

A 62-year-old man, Michael O'Sullivan, tragically died after a fire broke out in his flat in Co Cork last week. The fire occurred in his property on Togher Road in Cork city last Friday evening (January 31). Four units of Cork City Fire Brigade, supported by Gardaí and paramedics, responded to the scene within minutes after neighbors alerted them to the fire at around 6.50pm. Firefighters entered the apartment using breathing apparatus to check for occupants and found Mr.

O'Sullivan lying unresponsive in the kitchen area of his first-floor home. Despite desperate efforts to revive him, Mr. O'Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene before he could be transported to Cork University Hospital (CUH). A second person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. Mr. O'Sullivan had lived in his Togher Road flat for some time and was well known in the local community. His family has now confirmed his funeral arrangements as friends and neighbors paid emotional tributes to the popular figure, who has been remembered as a 'gentle soul'. Messages of condolence flooded in from those who knew him, describing him as a kind and friendly person. One friend wrote, 'Condolences to Michael's family and friends. A third mourner said: 'Sincere Condolences to Pat and Family on the sad passing of Michael. Very sad time for family and friends. Lovely guy, gentleman. Rest in Peace.' A fourth person added: 'So sorry for the loss of your brother he was a gentle soul and a good friend of my brother peter who also passed just lately may michael get the best bed in heaven.' A notice shared on RIP.ie states that Mr. O'Sullivan was the 'beloved son of the late Margaret and Paul and dear brother of Evelyn, Marie, Pat and the late Eileen and Charles. Sadly missed by his loving family, extended family, neighbours and friends'. Mr. O'Sullivan will repose at Sullivan’s Funeral Home in Turners Cross from 2pm until 3pm on Friday (February 7).
