A woman in her 60s has been killed in a hit-and-run on Phibsborough Road in Dublin.
She was hit by a car at Cross Guns Bridge on Phibsborough Road at around 9.10pm last night.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been removed for a post-mortem examination.It is thought the vehicle was being driven dangerously when it came to the attention of gardaí. The car, which was travelling from the Glasnevin/Ballymun area, came at speed through the junction at Cross Guns Bridge and was overtaking cars when it hit the woman.The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination and the road has been closed at its junction with Connaught Street.
Gardaí are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and details of what occurred remain unclear.The incident has been referred to the Garda Siochána Ombudsman Commission because of the earlier interaction between the car and gardaí. In a statement, GSOC said:"GSOC received a referral from An Garda Síochána on the night of Wednesday 4 October, following a road traffic incident in the Phibsborough area of Dublin."The matter is now under examination by GSOC and no further comment will be made at this time."There are lengthy delays in the area and motorists are being advised to use an alternative route if possible.
