A Dublin couple are facing a nightmare situation after their garden collapsed into River Camac, leaving their home in danger of complete collapse. Ellen Blehein and Robert Somerville bought their Inchicore home in 2021, but soon noticed cracks indicating structural issues caused by a decaying river wall. A Dublin couple are pleading for support after their garden collapse d into River Camac last week. Ellen Blehein and her husband Robert Somerville bought their Inchicore home in 2021, and noticed cracks on interior and exterior walls within months of moving in, before engineer reports found that the home was tilting due to the decaying river wall. They informed Dublin City Council of the issues with the river wall in 2023 and sent over the reports they had commissioned at the time.
Over the weekend when they were out of the house, the couple received a call telling them that the rear of the property fell into the riverbed. Ellen and Robert say they can't begin to start works on their home without Dublin City Council making the necessary repairs to the riverbank, as the river will continue to erode the foundations. Speaking to RSVP Live, Ellen said: 'We got a call and we came home immediately, but we couldn't see the extent of the damage because it was dark. The next morning, we realised that it was basically the whole back of our house as well as all of the drain pipes. It's catastrophic damage. 'There's a culvert that ends at our property wall, so all of the pressure from the water coming out is directly affecting our house. When we bought the house, unfortunately the engineer we worked with and the bank's engineer missed the signs and because it's a historic issue, it's outside of our insurance contract. They won't pay anythin
