Police are urgently appealing for the mother to come forward 'for her own welfare'
Police in the UK have launched an investigation after the body of a newborn baby was discovered in a bag outside a church in west London.
Officers were called to the scene at 12.46pm on Tuesday following a report that the remains had been found in a bag left near a bin outside All Saints’ Church on Talbot Road in Notting Hill. Officers remained in the area throughout the day as urgent enquiries continue into the "extremely sad and shocking" incident.
"This is an extremely sad and shocking matter and officers are working hard to establish the circumstances around what has taken place," he said.
