Connolly gave one of his greatest performances in the 2011 All-Ireland quarter-final

A League final and Division One status is on the line when Tyrone and Dublin meet at O’Neill’s Healy Park on Sunday afternoon but, the evening before, some old rivalries will be renewed at the same venue.

The meeting of the counties in the 2011 All-Ireland quarter-final was a seminal fixture in that it marked the end of the Tyrone side that won three All-Irelands in the 2000s, while it propelled Dublin to their first title in 16 years the subsequent September and much dominance thereafter. “There was a little bit of a hang-up in that squad, not from my point of view, but from a few of the older players on that Tyrone squad,” reflected the BoyleSports ambassador. “There was obviously the Battle of Omagh, there was icy League meetings with them, but Dublin never really got on top of that Tyrone team.

Connolly went along to Croke Park last Saturday night to take in Stephen Cluxton’s seasonal return for Dublin against Galway at the age of 43.
