Taoiseach Micheál Martin warns of increasingly frequent and severe storms as Ireland grapples with a power outage crisis following Storm Éowyn. He visits affected areas, hears frustration from residents, and acknowledges the need for improved preparedness.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has warned that Ireland will “experience more severe storms with greater regularity” as the clean-up after Storm Éowyn continues.

She told him: “This is my fourth time to lose power in 12 months. This is now the third time in 12 months I've lost the entire contents in my fridge and my freezer. When Mr Martin told Ms Connolly there was a “scheme to replenish that”, she questioned how this could be accessed and that there was a lack of information available as people had very little access to the internet.“I have no power coming until February 5.

She said: “It’s just not acceptable for students who have to be the same academically as they would be if they had electricity. Local Priest Fr Michael McManus told the Irish Mirror that he has been making house-calls to check on more vulnerable people in the community. He said that the State is going to have to prepare for more regular storms.

Mr Martin said: I think it speaks to the ongoing need to continue to invest in community organizations on the ground, community facilities on the ground, because in a world where we are going to experience more severe storms, I think with greater regularity than we would have in the past, that social infrastructure, that social and community capacity, is extremely important.
