Minister of State Jack Chambers said that speed limits on some Irish roads are 'completely inappropriate”.
Speed limits on roads across the country will be cut following concerns over the number of fatalities on Irish roads.
The speed limit reviews, which have been conducted over a two-year period, will not go to Cabinet for another number of weeks.“Essentially what we will be doing here is to change the baseline of the default limits where there will be a discretion then to local authorities where there's good design and safety standards they can be revised upwards by local authorities in terms of local, rural and national secondary roads.
Mr Chambers said that the plan will go to Cabinet in the coming weeks and it will be up to Local Authorities in 2024 and 2025.
