Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather issued a Red warning for all 26 counties in Ireland on Wednesday evening, forecasting a significant storm, Éowyn, with damaging winds and potential power outages. The storm is expected to hit the West Coast on Friday morning, with gusts of up to 180kph, and spread across the country, impacting all areas by midday. While the South East may experience milder winds, the rest of the country should brace for strong gusts exceeding 140kph. There is also a possibility of snow on Thursday night, mainly in the North West, turning to rain by Friday morning.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather issued an evening update stating, 'Wednesday evening, and we have got a Red warning for all 26 counties now, the South East counties were added to Red. The timings do vary starting from early two, three o'clock Friday morning, some ending at 10am, some at midday, and some later, depending how far North you go. Keep an eye on the timings, they could still change on the weather warnings.

The latest charts here, you can see Storm Éowyn is going to track right across the country, some very strong and damaging winds right across the country. The strongest into the West Coast area on Friday morning and then extending North and hitting all areas really. The South East should escape the worst of it, but still looking at very strong winds. If we look at the high resolution weather models here, we can see some more detail in terms of the wind speed. There is a possibility of gusts of 170kph 180kph on the West Coast, but over 140kph and 150kph is possible in some parts inland. So there will also be some rain, that's mainly Thursday night, falling as snow, some snow cover is expected in the North West, probably Thursday night and early into Friday morning turning to rain. But we are looking at significant power outages, you are looking at real extensive damage across the country here from this storm. So please pay heed to the warnings, this is not an ordinary storm, I will keep you updated to any major changes, but there weather models have been very consistent in the last few days.
