Storm Éowyn is set to bring dangerous and destructive weather to Ireland, with Met Éireann issuing a red alert warning for the entire island. The storm is expected to cause severe winds, coastal flooding, power outages, and widespread disruption to transport.

Valentia Island, located on the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, is preparing for powerful winds as Storm Éowyn approaches on Friday. The meteorological service, Met Éireann, predicts gale to storm force southerly winds, reaching extreme, damaging, and destructive gusts exceeding 130km/h between 2 am and 10 am on Friday. A similar warning applies to several counties across Ireland .

These strong winds pose a significant danger to life, creating extremely hazardous travel conditions, unsafe working environments, and potential coastal flooding in low-lying areas. Met Éireann warns of possible fallen trees, widespread power outages, and disruptions to communication networks due to the storm's force. In anticipation of these impacts, Limerick City and County Council advises residents to prepare for potentially very serious consequences on Friday. The council recommends securing outdoor items like garden furniture and trampolines to prevent them from becoming airborne projectiles in the wind. It also urges residents to charge their mobile phones and have torches with spare batteries readily available to ensure preparedness for potential service outages. The council strongly advises against unnecessary journeys and encourages residents to check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors and bring pets indoors for safety. Galway City Council has announced the closure of several car parks in areas like Salthill due to the risk of coastal overtopping. They have also made sandbags available at strategic locations to help mitigate potential flooding. Clare County Council is warning of coastal flooding in low-lying and exposed areas, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid traveling during the red warning period. Kerry County Council advises residents to plan for potential utility outages and stock up on basic provisions to remain indoors safely on Friday. They recommend that individuals with plans for social gatherings on Thursday night have alternative arrangements in place to return home two hours before the warning takes effect.Transport for Ireland has alerted the public that public transport services, including buses and trains, are likely to be severely disrupted during the storm, with operations ceasing during the red warning period. Even before and after the warning's duration, services are expected to face significant disruptions. The organization strongly advises against traveling without confirming service availability and recommends checking operator websites and social media for updates
