With a historic storm arriving in Ireland in less than 24 hours, drivers are being given a serious warning as “extremely strong winds” will cause life-threatening conditions
The Road Safety Authority is urging people not to drive at all on Friday, 24 January, during the red wind warning issued by Met Eireann .
The RSA noted that this isn’t a “typical weather event” as it is historical and poses a serious risk to life. “This could also lead to cancellation of events, wave overtopping, coastal flooding in low lying and exposed areas and unsafe working conditions as well as significant structural damage and disruption and cancellations to transport. “
The RSA continued: “Everyone must act responsibly to protect themselves and others while reducing pressure on emergency services and crews, who will be dealing with and responding to the aftermath of this extremely dangerous and destructive storm.Coastal areas will be faced with dangerous storm surges and flooding, with people told that “under no circumstances” should they put themselves at risk by engaging in storm voyeurism.
