Met Eireann has issued an unprecedented four-week weather warning, cautioning that storm-like and unsettled conditions could persist across Ireland throughout late February and March.

Met Eireann has taken the unusual step of announcing that weather warnings could be issued throughout the next four weeks.

However, the meteorological agency has also urged caution in interpreting its long-range forecast, emphasising that while it can provide insight into broader weather patterns, its accuracy decreases significantly beyond 10 days. What makes this forecast even more unprecedented is that it suggests weather warnings could be issued on a weekly basis. Typically, warnings are issued closer to specific severe events, rather than being anticipated so far in advance. But with continuous low-pressure systems on the way, Met Eireann has put Ireland on alert for a month of weather extremes.

In week two, from Monday, March 3 to Sunday, March 9, low-pressure systems will continue to dominate, keeping Ireland firmly in the grip of storm-like conditions. Rainfall will remain above average, and temperatures will stay unusually mild. The forecast reads: "The signal for Week 3 is for less unsettled weather, particularly in the southeast where precipitation is expected to be around normal. However, it is likely to be unsettled at times, with the west and north still receiving above average rainfall amounts. Temperatures are expected to continue trending above normal for March. Weather warnings cannot be ruled out."
