ESB and Eir say they don't offer compensation during exceptional events like storms
Leading energy providers and phone companies have warned customers that charges will be applied without exception despite loss of service from Storm Eowyn.
The ESB’s customer charter pledges to guarantee “at least two days’ notice” for an interruption to service and to otherwise pay €35 to domestic customers and €130 to businesses – but not in a storm. A customer of phone company Eir revealed to the Irish Mirror that they were told the company is “unable to credit for the loss of service”.
It added that it could not be held accountable for “any failure, interruption or delay in providing and maintaining a service” as a result of “acts of God” such as “lightning or otherwise, fires, floods, storms or other catastrophes”. A Garda spokesperson advised people to call their local Garda station or 999/112 if “someone calls to your house offering repair services”.
