Ireland is expected to escape the impact of Storm Ivo, according to weather expert Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather. While the storm is set to hit Spain and Portugal, bringing strong winds and snow to Northern Spain, the Emerald Isle will enjoy a period of calm weather for the next week or so. Ireland is still recovering from the aftermath of Storm Éowyn, which left hundreds of thousands without power. Electricity Supply Board has brought in technicians from various countries to help restore the damaged grids.
After back to back storms Éowyn and Herminia, the Emerald Isle is due for "five to seven" days of storm-free weather, according to Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather, one of Ireland 's go-to resources for meteorological information.
Taking to social media platform X, Alan offered some reassurance to his followers, saying: "Before anyone mentions #StormIvo it is NOT coming near Ireland. It has been named by the Portuguese met service and will bring strong winds there. It will also bring some snow to Northern Spain.""Pressure forecast to rise over coming days and no significant storms likely over next 5 -7 days at least. However the UK Met Office have updated 3 month outlook, mild wet and windy weather is 2.
In a new update today, The Electricity Supply Board said that they have drafted in skilled technicians from counterparts in Great Britain, Finland and Austria to help restore the damaged grids. "We still have many faults on the electricity network and have been made aware of several instances of potentially very dangerous incidents where members of the public have unknowingly approached fallen electricity infrastructure."
